My professional mission is to facilitate citizens’ access to the their legal rights. Whether by legal advice, litigation, or by public and governmental advocacy, I work in support of the rule of law and the Constitution.
Over 20 years of experience before all levels of courts and various tribunals in Alberta and Western Canada, in areas of civil liberties, constitutional rights, administrative law, professional regulation, commercial disputes, builders’ liens, construction, property rights, oil and gas, injury law, and insolvency.
Legal services based on loyalty to the client and to the law
I came to law via an education in Western legal and political systems with the “Calgary School” at the University of Calgary.
The rule of law is essential to the citizen’s freedoms and democratic voice.
Without the rule of law, you have no real contractual rights, property rights, or other legal and constitutional protections. Without the rule of law, the democratic process has no power.
Given this, the lawyer has two roles.
First, to facilitate citizen access to legal rights and protections by loyal and effective legal service.
Second, to support a justice system which operates according the rule of law.
I aspire to these roles in my professional practice.
I provide loyal, effective service to clients, facilitating access to justice, whether individuals, corporations, or institutions, and whether the legal problem is commercial, private, or public in nature.
I also publicly advocate on behalf of fundamental civic values including the rule of law.

What is your basic approach to legal service?
I provide excellent legal services while understanding that clients need a pragmatic and efficient route to their goals. Great work that is unnecessary or unaffordable is no help to clients.
How do you bill?
Like most lawyers, I bill by the hour, plus disbursements. I do not work on contingency. My rates are highly competitive.
Is there any flexibility if I am advancing an important civil or constitutional right?
For such cases I offer a charitable rate and will be pleased to accommodate and support public and government outreach, including fundraising.
